Election Commission to Release Draft SIR Electoral Roll of Uttar Pradesh Today

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to publish the draft electoral roll of Uttar Pradesh today as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, marking a crucial step in ensuring accuracy and transparency in the state’s voter database ahead of upcoming electoral exercises.

According to election officials, the draft voter list, which was originally scheduled for release on December 31, has now been finalized and will be made available for public scrutiny on January 6. The publication will open a one-month window for citizens to verify their details and raise claims or objections where necessary.

    Claims and Objections Window Opens

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Navdeep Rinva, earlier informed that the period for submitting claims and objections will remain open from January 6 to February 6, 2026. During this time, voters will be able to seek corrections in personal details, inclusion of eligible names, deletion of duplicate or ineligible entries, and rectification of address-related discrepancies.

Following this, the Election Commission will enter the notice and verification phase, which will continue from January 6 to February 27, 2026. During this stage, electoral authorities at various levels will examine and resolve all claims and objections received from the public.

Officials said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and election staff have been instructed to ensure timely disposal of applications and maintain transparency throughout the process.

Final Electoral Roll Scheduled for March 6

After the completion of the claims and objections process, the final electoral roll of Uttar Pradesh will be published on March 6, 2026, as per the revised election calendar. This final list will serve as the authoritative voter database for future elections conducted in the state.

Mr. Rinva stated that all enumeration forms have already been received and digitised, indicating that groundwork for the revision process has been completed. The digitisation exercise is expected to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and help voters access their information more easily through online platforms.

    Importance of the SIR Process

The Special Intensive Revision is considered one of the most comprehensive exercises undertaken by the Election Commission to ensure the integrity of electoral rolls. It involves door-to-door verification, data cross-checking, and the use of digital tools to eliminate duplication and outdated entries.

Election officials highlighted that the SIR process is particularly important in a populous and politically significant state like Uttar Pradesh, which has the largest electorate in the country. Ensuring a clean and updated voter list is seen as critical for conducting free, fair, and credible elections.

    Citizens Urged to Verify Details

The Election Commission has urged all eligible voters to carefully check their names and details in the draft roll once it is published. Citizens can submit claims and objections both online and offline through designated forms and election offices.

Special focus has also been placed on the inclusion of first-time voters, youth, women, senior citizens, and migrant populations, who are often under-represented or face documentation challenges.

Officials emphasized that public participation is key to the success of the revision exercise. “An accurate electoral roll is the foundation of democracy, and citizens must actively engage in the verification process,” an election official said.

    Strengthening Electoral Transparency

The timely publication of the draft roll reflects the Election Commission’s commitment to transparency and democratic accountability. With the final roll scheduled well ahead of major political events, the process allows sufficient time to address grievances and ensure voter confidence.

As Uttar Pradesh prepares for future electoral milestones, the release of the draft SIR electoral roll today marks a significant administrative step aimed at strengthening the democratic framework of the state.
