A major geopolitical controversy has emerged after an Iranian naval vessel, the IRIS Dena, was sunk by a United States submarine in the Indian Ocean, near the coast of Sri Lanka. The incident, which occurred on March 4, 2026, has triggered global debate and raised serious questions about India’s strategic influence and security role in the region.

The attack took place while the Iranian warship was returning home after participating in a multinational naval exercise hosted by India.
