    Cold Wave and Poor Air Quality Persist in Delhi-NCR; Flight Delays Reported

    Delhi and the National Capital Region continue to face severe cold wave and dense fog conditions, with air quality remaining in the ‘poor’ category for the second consecutive day. These conditions have caused disruptions in road and air traffic, with several airlines and the Delhi Airport issuing advisories about potential flight delays.

    According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) Sameer app, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi rose to 286 on Tuesday, slightly worse than Monday’s 244. Although a temporary improvement to the ‘moderate’ category is forecast, air quality is expected to deteriorate again to ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’ between January 7–13.

    • Maximum Temperature: Around 19°C

    • IMD forecasts temperatures across northwest India to drop 2–3°C over the next four days, with similar dips in central and eastern regions over the next two days.

    • Palam: 15.3°C

    • Lodhi Road: 17.8°C

    • Ridge: 17.7°C

    • Ayanagar: 17°C

    Flight Advisory

    Delhi Airport confirmed that flight operations are under CAT III conditions due to dense fog, leading to delays. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updates.

    IndiGo warned of potential disruptions in airports including Delhi, Amritsar, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Varanasi, Ranchi, and Hindon. The airline urged travellers to stay updated through official apps and websites.

    Health Advisory

     

    Authorities advise residents, especially the elderly and those with respiratory issues, to limit outdoor exposure as cold and pollution levels remain high.
