New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested four men in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man who was allegedly chased down and stabbed repeatedly in southeast Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj area. Investigators suspect that the killing was linked to an old rivalry that reportedly began following an altercation inside Tihar Jail in 2025.

The victim, identified as Shahid Hussain, a resident of Jamia Nagar, had been released from jail earlier this week, according to police. He was attacked on Wednesday at Shriram Chowk while returning on his scooter after visiting Basantpur to meet someone. The assault was captured by a CCTV camera, whose footage reportedly shows four men arriving on a motorcycle, intercepting Hussain and attacking him after bringing him down from his scooter.

The four arrested men have been identified as Karan alias Karam Shah, Abuzar, Monu Malik alias Sabir, and Gaurav Gumma. Police said three other suspects, including Tarun alias Ranjan, who allegedly had a dispute with Hussain inside Tihar Jail, remain absconding. The other two wanted men have been identified as Aman and Raja.

The arrests follow an investigation by the Kalindi Kunj police station in southeast Delhi. Police teams are continuing efforts to locate the remaining suspects and recover the weapons allegedly used in the attack.

    CCTV Footage Captures the Attack

According to the police account, the attack took place on Wednesday at Shriram Chowk in the Kalindi Kunj area. Hussain was travelling on his scooter when four men on a motorcycle allegedly intercepted him.

The CCTV footage reportedly shows the assailants pursuing the scooter-borne victim, forcing him off the vehicle and repeatedly stabbing him. The nature of the attack has become a key part of the investigation as officers work to establish the sequence of events and identify the individual roles of those involved.

Police said Hussain had travelled to Basantpur to meet someone and was returning on his scooter when he was intercepted by the attackers. The assault took place before he could reach his destination.

Following the attack, Hussain was rushed to Apollo Hospital. Doctors declared him dead, police said.

Investigators also found his scooter abandoned at the scene with bloodstains on it. The vehicle and the CCTV footage are among the pieces of evidence being examined as part of the investigation.

The footage is expected to assist investigators in reconstructing the incident, identifying the suspects and assessing how the attackers approached the victim and escaped after the assault. Police are also investigating whether the accused had tracked Hussain’s movements before the attack or acted after encountering him on the road. No confirmed details about any prior surveillance have been provided in the available police account.

Police Suspect Rivalry Originating Inside Tihar Jail

Investigators believe the murder may have stemmed from a dispute between Hussain and Tarun alias Ranjan following an altercation inside Tihar Jail in 2025.

A police officer said the investigation indicated that the killing was allegedly motivated by the old rivalry between the two men.

“Investigation revealed that the murder was allegedly motivated by an old rivalry between Shahid and an accused, Tarun alias Ranjan, following an altercation inside Tihar Jail in 2025,” the officer said.

The suspected connection to the earlier prison dispute is an important line of inquiry. Investigators are examining whether the disagreement continued after the individuals left jail and whether the alleged rivalry led to a planned attack.

Hussain had been released from jail earlier in the week, police said. The timing of his release is part of the circumstances being examined by investigators, although the available information does not establish precisely when the alleged conspiracy was formed or whether the attack had been planned before his release.

Tarun, who is among the three suspects still absconding, is alleged to have had the original dispute with Hussain. Police are working to trace him and the other wanted men to determine their alleged involvement and establish the full sequence of events.

The suspected motive remains subject to investigation. Although police have identified an alleged connection to the 2025 altercation, the precise circumstances of that dispute and the evidence linking each suspect to the murder will need to be established through the investigation and any subsequent judicial proceedings.

Four Arrested Suspects Allegedly Played Different Roles

Police have arrested Karan alias Karam Shah, Abuzar, Monu Malik alias Sabir, and Gaurav Gumma in connection with the case.

According to investigators, the accused allegedly played different roles in the crime. These included participating in the assault, helping the attackers escape and being involved in the alleged conspiracy.

Police have not provided a complete public account of the individual roles attributed to each arrested man. Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence to determine who allegedly carried out the stabbing, who assisted the attackers and how the suspects may have coordinated their actions.

The identification of three additional suspects has widened the search. Tarun alias Ranjan, Aman and Raja remain absconding, according to police.

Authorities are conducting raids to trace the wanted men. Their arrest is expected to help investigators examine the suspected motive, establish the alleged planning behind the attack and determine whether other individuals were involved.

The police investigation is also focused on recovering the weapons allegedly used in the murder. Recovery of the weapons could assist forensic examination and help investigators assess the evidence collected from the crime scene.

The allegations against the arrested men remain subject to the legal process. Their arrest does not, by itself, establish guilt, which must be determined by a competent court on the basis of evidence.

Kalindi Kunj Police Lead the Investigation

The case was cracked by the Kalindi Kunj police station under southeast Delhi district police.

Investigators have been examining the CCTV footage, the circumstances surrounding the attack and information concerning the alleged rivalry between Hussain and the suspects. The abandoned scooter and bloodstains found at the scene have also been noted as part of the evidence.

Police are continuing efforts to locate the three absconding suspects and recover the weapons allegedly used in the assault.

The investigation will need to establish the precise sequence of events leading up to the killing, the extent of each accused person’s alleged involvement and the evidence supporting the suspected motive. Officers will also have to establish how the attackers allegedly coordinated the interception and escape.

The CCTV footage provides a visual record of the attack, according to the police account, but the broader circumstances surrounding the murder remain under investigation. Statements from witnesses, forensic findings and other evidence may help establish the roles of the accused and corroborate or challenge the suspected connection to the earlier jail altercation.

Investigation Continues as Police Search for Remaining Suspects

The murder has drawn attention to the alleged continuation of a rivalry that investigators believe began inside Tihar Jail. Police suspect that the earlier dispute may have led to the fatal assault in Kalindi Kunj, but the complete chain of events has yet to be established publicly.

With four men arrested and three others still wanted, the immediate priorities for investigators are to trace the absconding suspects, recover the alleged weapons and collect evidence establishing the involvement of each accused.

The circumstances surrounding Hussain’s movements before the attack and the events following his release from jail may also form part of the continuing inquiry. Police have not publicly established all the details concerning how the alleged plan was made or the specific contribution of each suspect.

For now, the case centres on the fatal stabbing at Shriram Chowk, the CCTV footage showing the assault and the suspected rivalry involving Tarun alias Ranjan. The arrests mark a significant development in the investigation, but the motive, individual roles and wider circumstances of the crime will ultimately depend on the evidence gathered by police and examined through the judicial process.
