Trump Says Iran Has Reached Out for Talks as US Reviews Possible Responses

US President Donald Trump on Monday said that Iran’s leadership has contacted the United States to initiate negotiations, even as Washington continues to review possible responses amid ongoing unrest in the country.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said discussions were being arranged after what he described as sustained pressure from the US. While confirming that a meeting was being planned, he cautioned that developments on the ground could influence Washington’s next steps before talks formally begin.

“They called to negotiate. A meeting is being set up,” Trump said, adding that the US would closely monitor the situation ahead of any engagement.

    Concerns Over Developments in Iran

Trump’s remarks came amid reports of casualties during continuing demonstrations across Iran. He said the situation was being taken seriously by US authorities and suggested that Iran was nearing a critical threshold.

According to the US President, Washington is also maintaining contact with figures linked to Iran’s opposition, though he did not provide further details.

    US Position and Recent History

Earlier, Trump stated that the United States supports efforts aimed at greater freedom for the Iranian people, while also emphasising the protection of regional stability and US interests.

The US has previously conducted military operations targeting Iranian facilities, including strikes earlier this year following heightened regional tensions. Those actions were carried out in coordination with allied partners and were described by US officials as limited and strategic.

    Outlook

As diplomatic signals and security concerns continue to intersect, observers say the coming days will be critical in determining whether talks move forward or whether tensions escalate further.

US officials have reiterated that while dialogue remains an option, Washington is prepared to respond if circumstances change.
