Raghav Chadha Calls for Ban on 10-Minute Deliveries, Citing ‘Cruelty’ Toward Gig Workers

AAP leader Raghav Chadha on Friday urged the government to ban 10-minute delivery services, calling them an act of “cruelty” that endangers gig workers who race against time under extreme pressure. Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, he said delivery agents were not machines but human beings with families who suffer because of unrealistic deadlines.

Chadha described gig workers from platforms such as Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, Zepto, Ola, and Uber as the “invisible wheels of the Indian economy” who are rarely acknowledged despite working long hours in harsh weather. He warned that quick-delivery models push workers to overspeed, jump signals and risk accidents due to fears of rating drops, incentive cuts and potential blocking from apps.

He listed three key issues faced by gig workers: unsafe delivery time pressure, customer harassment over minor delays, and hazardous working conditions without protective gear, insurance or employment benefits. Despite contributing to billion-dollar valuations for quick-commerce companies, many gig workers, he said, are worse off than daily wage labourers.
