Delhi Police Arrests 12th Accused in Turkman Gate Stone-Pelting Case, Security Tightened Ahead of Friday Prayers

New Delhi, January 9, 2026 – Delhi Police on Friday arrested another individual in connection with the Turkman Gate stone-pelting incident, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to twelve. The latest arrest, identified as 36-year-old Mohd Imran, comes as authorities continue to maintain heightened security in and around the Turkman Gate area ahead of Friday prayers, officials said.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan confirmed the arrest, stating, “We have arrested Mohd Imran. Further investigation is underway. Security will remain tightened in the area to prevent any untoward incidents.”

Following previous disturbances near the Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid, a large contingent of police and paramilitary personnel has been deployed to sensitive pockets of the area to ensure law and order. Senior officers have been actively supervising the ground arrangements, while strategic pickets have been set up to regulate movement around mosques and adjoining lanes.

The police have also deployed drone surveillance and monitored CCTV cameras across the locality to maintain constant vigilance. An officer overseeing the arrangements stated, “The situation is peaceful and under control. Our teams are in constant touch with local community members, and adequate security measures have been implemented as a precautionary measure in view of Friday prayers.”

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and refrain from responding to unverified messages that may circulate on social media.

The Turkman Gate stone-pelting case initially drew attention following clashes triggered during a demolition drive by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) against encroachments near the Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid. The drive had led to tensions in the area, prompting security forces to step up measures to prevent further disturbances.

With the arrest of Mohd Imran, police investigations continue to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Law enforcement agencies have assured residents that all possible measures are being taken to maintain peace and prevent escalation.

The Delhi Police’s proactive approach, including the arrest of key suspects and increased deployment in sensitive zones, underscores the authorities’ commitment to ensuring public safety and order during religious congregations. Residents in the area have been advised to cooperate with security personnel and follow official guidelines to maintain harmony.

For Yugcharan News, this development highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement to maintain civic order and the vigilance required in sensitive urban areas, especially during religious gatherings.
