Congress Projects Clean Sweep in Kozhikode, Expresses Confidence After Kerala Polling

    Yugcharan News / 14 April 2026

The Congress leadership in Kerala’s Kozhikode district has expressed strong confidence that candidates of the United Democratic Front (UDF) will secure victory in all 13 Assembly constituencies in the district, following the completion of polling in the recently held State elections.

Senior district leaders said internal assessments and feedback from booth-level workers indicate a favourable trend for the alliance, with some constituencies expected to witness substantial victory margins.

The statement comes at a time when political parties across Kerala are closely monitoring post-poll developments and voter sentiment ahead of the official counting process.

    Congress Signals Optimism in Kozhikode

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, K. Praveenkumar, who is also the Kozhikode District Congress Committee president, said the alliance was confident of winning across the district.

He stated that in several constituencies, the UDF expects victory margins to cross five digits.

According to party leaders, the optimism is based on field reports, campaign response and what they described as visible voter support for a change in government.

Congress leaders also claimed that anti-incumbency sentiment may have influenced voter behaviour in several areas.

Kozhikode Seen as Key Electoral District

Kozhikode remains one of Kerala’s politically significant districts, often seen as an important indicator of broader electoral trends in the northern part of the State.

The district has historically witnessed intense contests involving:

    • The Congress-led UDF
    • The Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist)
    • Other regional players

Political analysts note that Kozhikode’s electoral outcomes often reflect larger shifts in urban, semi-urban and coastal voter preferences.

This year’s contest in the district has drawn particular attention because of its mix of politically aware urban voters, strong party structures and issue-based campaigning.

    UDF Banking on Grassroots Mobilisation

Congress leaders said the UDF’s campaign in Kozhikode focused on local governance, employment concerns, development and public services.

Party workers have claimed strong mobilisation efforts at the grassroots level, including:

    • Door-to-door outreach
    • Booth-level coordination
    • Voter engagement programmes
    • Candidate-specific local campaigns

According to UDF leaders, these efforts helped strengthen their connect with voters across multiple segments.

The alliance has also suggested that dissatisfaction over local administrative issues may have worked in its favour.

    Claims of Cross-Voting Surface

Congress leaders also alleged that some voters traditionally aligned with rival parties may have supported UDF candidates this time.

Without naming specific areas, leaders suggested that calls for political change may have influenced sections of voters beyond the alliance’s conventional support base.

Such claims, however, remain part of post-poll political assessments and cannot be independently verified until counting trends become available.

Political experts often caution that post-poll statements by parties tend to reflect optimism aimed at energising workers and supporters.

Opposition Yet to Respond in Detail

At the time of publication, detailed responses from rival political formations in Kozhikode had not emerged regarding Congress’s sweeping claims.

Leaders from the Left alliance have in recent days maintained that the government’s welfare and development record would resonate with voters.

Kerala has traditionally witnessed highly competitive elections, and final outcomes have often defied early political claims.

Analysts say district-level perceptions may not always translate directly into actual results, especially in closely fought constituencies.

    High Stakes in Kerala Elections

The Assembly elections in Kerala are being closely watched for their implications on:

    • State governance direction
    • Opposition strategy
    • National political messaging

The Congress and UDF are seeking to regain political ground by projecting themselves as a viable alternative, while the ruling Left front is aiming to retain its support base.

For the Congress, strong results in districts such as Kozhikode would carry symbolic and organisational significance.

The party has been working to strengthen its presence in Kerala, where it continues to remain a major opposition force.

Counting Day Will Determine Final Outcome

Despite the confident claims from Congress leaders, the final verdict will only become clear once votes are counted.

Election observers note that factors such as turnout patterns, local candidate equations and last-mile mobilisation can all influence results.

Until then, parties are expected to continue reviewing booth-level data and preparing for counting day.

For now, Kozhikode has emerged as one of the districts where political interest remains especially high, with competing narratives already shaping the post-poll discourse.

The coming days will reveal whether Congress’s confidence translates into electoral gains or whether the contest proves tighter than early claims suggest.
