Delhi 17-Year-Old Allegedly Gang-Raped At Park On Birthday By Men Posing As Police Personnel

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men who posed as police personnel at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir in southeast Delhi on the night of September 21, according to a report by The Hindu. The girl was reportedly assaulted on her 17th birthday, while her 17-year-old male friend was also allegedly assaulted during the incident.

Police registered a case on September 22 and formed multiple teams to trace the accused. Three men have been identified in connection with the case. One of them was injured during a police operation on the morning of September 22.

According to the report, the accused allegedly used police-related language and pretended to be law-enforcement personnel before separating the girl from her friend. They allegedly threatened the victims with a firearm and a knife before the sexual assault.

The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as the survivor is 17 years old.

The allegations are part of an ongoing criminal investigation, and the accused are presumed innocent unless found guilty through due legal process.

Three Men Identified As Accused

The three accused identified in the case are Asif, 31, Hemanth, 31, and Mukesh, 24, according to The Hindu.

Asif is described as an onion wholesaler working at the Srinivaspuri market and a resident of Tughlakabad. He was allegedly involved in the incident and was subsequently injured in a police operation on Tuesday morning.

Hemanth, also 31, reportedly claims to be an advocate practising at Saket court and was preparing for competitive examinations. His brother Mukesh, 24, is a B.Sc. student from Palwal in Haryana. The two brothers are residents of Srinivaspuri.

Police began efforts to trace the accused after the complaint was registered on September 22.

One Accused Injured During Police Operation

Asif was shot in the leg during a police operation on September 22 morning, according to the report.

The circumstances of the police operation are part of the investigation. The accused was subsequently taken for medical treatment.

Police had formed several teams to locate those allegedly involved in the incident following registration of the case.

The investigation is expected to examine the sequence of events at the park, the alleged impersonation of police personnel and the circumstances in which the two teenagers were separated.

The authorities are also expected to collect relevant evidence and statements as part of the probe.

Accused Allegedly Posed As Police Personnel

Her male friend was also reportedly assaulted during the incident.
